Surplus to Requirement

Coins of Zeus & Astarte (Jugate) were produced in great numbers between 137-126 B.C. This series was then deemed surplus to requirement only to be reintroduced 41 years later in 86-85 B.C with Greek monograms. In 78-77 B.C Greek letters replaced the traditional Phoenician dating system and ran until the series was discontinued in 52-51 B.C.

The coin i have chosen to share today dated CH or 208 (52-51 B.C) is extremely rare, to my knowledge only nine coins of this era date have been documented (see revised list below).
