OT-ABQZN 24-L∆K12 (QL)

 

Phoenicia, Orthosia 41-40 B.C (Pompeian Era)

AE 18.83mm (Thickness 2.80mm), weight 5.10g, die axis = 12h (0 degrees), denomination B.

Obverse: Head of Artemis right, bow and quiver over shoulder.

Reverse: Zeus half naked seated on throne, holding Nike in right hand, OPΘΩCIЄΩN (Orthosia) vertical in right field, in left field era date L∆K (24).

 

Little is know about Orthosia, but it is said that the Phoenician city was located 12 miles north of Tripolis and 30 miles south of Antaradus. Diodotus Tryphon fled to Orthosia after his defeat to Antiochus VII Sidetes.
